Lin Ward, Network Engineer

Prior to becoming an employee of Business Data Solutions, Inc., Lin worked in the private IT sector as a Network Engineer for Blue Ridge Health Care managing a data center of 110 servers and a network containing over 100 Cisco switches and routers. He has worked in many large data centers during his career, and has an understanding of the needs companies have regarding their datacenters. Lin has provided solutions in the healthcare and manufacturing sectors where there is no allowance for downtime. He has worked a great deal with virtualization and since coming to Business Data Solutions he has moved several companies to complete VMWare solutions; saving them administrative overhead, money spent to cool the data center, time spent doing backups, and money spent to power the datacenter. These cost savings methods have saved his customers money, and will continue to save them money and time throughout the lifecycle of the solution. For instance one customer moving to VMWare is now able to backup each and every server nightly. Previously they could only run a backup every other day due to time constraints on their backup window. By utilizing VMWare’s ability to communicate directly to the SAN for backup their backup windows was reduced to allow all 15 servers to be backed up nightly in less time than in was taking to do 5 previously. Along with VMWare Lin has worked extensively with network technologies and holds several network and security related certifications. He is also certified on IBM Blade and xSeries hardware.

Rob Baker, Systems Engineer

Rob been working in the technical field for 19 years and became a Microsoft Engineer in 1997. Since then, he has become proficient in many different areas that include Network Security, Threat Management, Server Consolidation, and Administration. One of Rob's most memorable projects was with a company that had 27 locations spread across North Carolina. Each location was isolated from other offices and each had their own set of applications and data. Rob was able to bring all locations together in a secure WAN environment. Rob then designed a VMware cluster and by running Terminal Services was able to have all applications and data located in one place that was accessible by everyone at all locations. After the project was complete, the customer was able to eliminate a server from each location and the IT department was reduced to one technician. Estimated savings for this customer was $147,000 a year.

Darrell Lively, Technical Sales Specialist

Darrell joined Business Data Solutions in January 2009. He has extensive experience and success working with clients across industries, designing the most appropriate technology solutions to address major business concerns. Darrell worked for IBM for 14 years, afterwards joining with Toshiba and other major manufacturers, while also having years of experience as a solutions provider. Darrell is skilled in providing the best technology solutions to address current and future business needs, including getting the best value for the money in hardware, software and services, while preparing organizations for the future. He puts the right solution in to tackle the right problem, which results in timely, cost-effective, high value business problem solving. Some technology solutions examples he was responsible for include server and storage consolidation for a large medical facility. By moving from tower and rack mount servers each with its own internal hard drives, to a blade server environment with Storage Area Network (SAN), the facility was able to save thousands of dollars in data center redesign and cooling costs, while easing the burden of management of the environment. Security concerns, compliance concerns (such as HIPAA) and disaster recovery were all addressed with this new architecture. This also provided the foundation for the future of the growth of the facilities.

Darrell worked closely with a banking institution to help design and implement their new data center to include not only server and storage physical consolidation, but also VMware for software and OS virtualization. This solution was architected to handle the many branches across states as well as the main campus buildings, while providing for disaster recovery and high availability. These technology solutions addressed cost, data center redesign, compliance issues and future requirements.
